Chiguayante is a city in the middle of the South American Andean state of Chile . It is located in the Región del Bío-Bío and has 85,863 inhabitants (Census 2017).
geography
Chiguayante belongs to the Gran Concepción agglomeration and is located just a few kilometers southeast of Concepción on the road to Hualqui .

history
On March 4, 1819, Bernardo O'Higgins set by decree the construction of a road from Concepción to Hualqui. Chiguayante is roughly in the middle of the route. In 1845 Chiguayante was declared a city. On October 7, 1925, the Chiguayante Commune was established. On December 30, 1927, the city was incorporated into Concepción . Only on June 28, 1996, the city became independent again. The city was particularly hard hit by the earthquake in February 2010 .
economy
Chiguayante is an industrial and service location that has very good transport links to the Gran Concepcíon agglomeration . However, the booming Gran Concepcíon area causes a number of environmental problems. The city is often plagued by traffic congestion and pollution of the Bío Bío River from the expansion of Gran Concepcíon is also a problem.
tourism
The main attraction for tourists is definitely the Bio-Bio river.
