The Biozentrum Tower is a skyscraper under construction for the Biozentrum of the University of Basel . After its completion in 2021, the building will replace the former Biozentrum, which opened in 1971 and was designed by the architect Martin Burckhardt .

Construction began in August 2013. By May 2014, the 12 meter deep excavation pit was excavated. According to the plan, the shell and facade should be completed by December 2016. In addition to the Biozentrum, the IT services, lecture halls and a public cafeteria will be housed in the high-rise. The approximately 73 meter high building has a floor plan of 50.3 × 47.7 meters.

Due to difficulties in fire protection and deficiencies in the sanitary work that have become known, it is expected to be handed over to the university in autumn 2021. In addition, the construction phase will be extended by four years.

The Biozentrum tower is located on the Schällemätteli campus , on which further new buildings for the life sciences sector are to be built over the next few years .
