Birgit Mütherich

Birgit Mütherich (born October 4, 1959 - † November 16, 2011 in Dortmund ) was a German animal liberation activist , sociologist and author . She has done many pioneering work in the institutionalization of a critical view of human-animal relationships through sociology. Your writings are an important point of reference for the young research field of human-animal studies in German-speaking countries.

Her theory is based largely on the critical theory of the Frankfurt School , the philosophical approaches of Friedrich Nietzsche and Arthur Schopenhauer, and on the peace and conflict research of Johan Galtung . She worked at the Dortmund Social Research Center with a focus on youth, migration, gender and work research and most recently as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Dortmund.
