Birgit Wentzien
Birgit Wentzien (also: Birgit Wentzien-Ziegler ; * 1959 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist and has been editor-in-chief of Deutschlandfunk since 2012 .
Life
Birgit Wentzien attended the German School of Journalism before studying communication science and political science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . A traineeship at Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) in Stuttgart was followed by a permanent position as editor and moderator for the politics department and the newsroom of SDR until 1992 .
In 1993 Wentzien changed to the capital correspondent in the joint studio of the SDR with the Südwestfunk , which belonged to the newly founded Südwestrundfunk after the merger of the two broadcasters . In 1999 she became the deputy director of the SWR-Studio Berlin, from June 2004 its director. From September 2006 to 2008 she hosted the SWR TV talk show Quergefragt alternately with Anke Hlauschka .
In February 2012, the board of directors of Deutschlandradio decided, at the suggestion of artistic director Willi Steul , to appoint Birgit Wentzien as the successor to Stephan Detjen as editor-in-chief of Deutschlandfunk from April 1, 2012 .
Birgit Wentzien is a mentor at the Protestant School of Journalism and a member of the executive board of the German Press Club . She is married and has a son.
