Biribui

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cave of Biribui (also Petrem ) is a cave in the East Timorese Suco Fatubessi ( Maubisse administrative office , Ainaro municipality ).

The cave is located near Mount Fatubessi , in a blind valley formed by a small stream. The stream falls dry outside of the rainy season. The entrance to the cave is on the rock face where the Blind Valley ends. A small stream flows out of the cave.

The cave was first explored by Timorese and Portuguese speleologists in 2016. They went a hundred yards along a level path until they reached a high gallery. From this point on, climbing equipment would be necessary. A total of 20 cave entrances are known in this area, including the Bakua Cave , the deepest and longest cave in East Timor to date. Biribui is the deepest of the caves. Possibly it is connected to Bakua and the other caves, so that the whole system could be several kilometers long and would overcome an altitude difference of 500 meters.
