The Biserujka špilja ("pearl cave" from biser = pearl), also known as Vitezić cave (Vitezić = little knight) and Slivanjska shaft, is a 110 meter long and only 12 meters below the surface of the stalactite cave on the Croatian island of Krk . It is located in the Dobrinj municipality near the small village of Rudine above the Slivanjska bay . The cave is a bit out of the way in a barren macchia landscape, which is also characterized by many sinkholes . Today it is open to visitors as a show cave .

The cave with its three halls was discovered more than 100 years ago.

Fortified paths and electrical lighting were laid out for tourist development, and access was secured. A 65 meter long part of the cave is accessible. Visits are only possible as part of guided tours, which take place every 15 minutes during the day during the holiday season.

The temperature in the cave is between 13 and 15 degrees. In hot summer months and as a result of frequent openings, it can also lie above it.

The deepest part of the cave is 53 meters above sea level.

Some of the stalactites have been damaged by visitors looking for souvenirs. In places the walls are sooty, as the cave used to be lit with torches.

Interior of the cave

The rear hall is called "Zypressensaal" because the stalagmites there are similar to cypresses .

When the cave was discovered around 1900, an approximately 16,000 year old skeleton of a cave bear was found in the entrance hall .

According to tradition, there is a treasure belonging to an old smuggler there, which has not yet been recovered.
