Signy-le-Petit is a French commune with 1243 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Grand Est region in the Ardennes department . It is located in the arrondissement of Charleville-Mézières and is part of the canton of Rocroi .

Signy-le-Petit is located in the valley of the Gland River , five kilometers south of the border with Belgium in the Ardennes Regional Nature Park .

Signy-le-Petit station was on the Charleville-Mézières – Hirson line .

Field airfield in World War II

During the advance of the German Wehrmacht after the start of their western campaign , pasture near Signey-le-Petit was temporarily converted into a field airfield in mid-May 1940 . Bf 109E von Stab und III used this until the beginning of June 1940 . Group of Jagdgeschwader 2 , with Group I of Jagdgeschwader 21 joining them for a few days at the beginning . Afterwards, the fourth (Stuka) group of Lehrgeschwader 1 with its Ju 87B lay here for a few days in the first half of June 1940 as the last unit of the Air Force .
