Flize is a French commune with 1,723 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the arrondissement Charleville-Mézières and the canton Nouvion-sur-Meuse (until 2015 it was the capital of the canton Flize ). The inhabitants are called Fliziens .

It was created with effect from January 1, 2019 as the Commune nouvelle of the same name through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Flize , Balaives-et-Butz , Boutancourt and Élan , which have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are in Flize.

geography

Flize is about seven kilometers south-east of Charleville-Mézières and about twelve kilometers west of Sedan on the river Maas (French Meuse ), which borders the municipality in the north and northeast. Flize is surrounded by the neighboring communities Boulzicourt in the north and north-west, Saint-Marceau , Étrépigny and Chalandry-Elaire in the north, Nouvion-sur-Meuse in the north-east, Dom-le-Mesnil in the east and north-east, Sapogne-et-Feuchères in the east, Vendresse in the southeast, Villers-le-Tilleul and Singly in the south and Villers-sur-le-Mont in the west and southwest.
