Fumay is a French commune with 3481 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and until 2015 was the capital of the canton of the same name near the Belgian border in the Charleville-Mézières arrondissement of the Ardennes department ( Grand Est region ). Fumay has been part of the Revin canton since 2015 .

Fumay in the Ardennes is of a flow loop ( meander ) of the Maas encircled.

history

In 762 Pippin the Younger gave the land to the Prüm Abbey . With this the place came to Kurtrier in 1576 and became part of the Prüm office . In 1778 the towns of Fumay and Fépin were ceded by Kurtrier to France.

economy

Fumay has been known for its slate industry (slate town of Fumay) since the 12th century . The last slate quarry was closed in 1971.
