The municipality is located in the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, founded in 2011 . Charnois is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rancennes in the north, Fromelennes in the east, the Belgian community of Beauraing in the southeast, Landrichamps in the south and Chooz in the west.

Origin of name

The place name Charnois is derived from Cassanos , the Gallic word for oak .
