Beauraing

Beauraing ( Biarin in Walloon ) is a municipality in the French-speaking province of Namur . It consists of the 15 districts Baronville , Beauraing , Dion , Felenne , Feschaux , Focant , Froidfontaine , Honnay , Javingue , Martouzin-Neuville , Pondrôme , Vonêche , Wancennes , Winenne and Wiesme , which were independent municipalities until 1977 . Beauraing is known as a place of pilgrimage for its Marian shrine.

The parish council ( Conseil communal ) has 14 members ( Conseillers ); from it the college is formed with the mayor ( Bourgmestre ) and four aldermen ( Échevins ).

Pilgrimage site

Between November 29, 1932 and January 3, 1933, five children between the ages of nine and fifteen had an apparition of Mary 33 times in the garden of a boarding school run by nuns . This led to pilgrimages to Beauraing. In July 1949, André Marie Charue , Bishop of Namur, recognized two miraculous healings through the intercession of the Virgin of Beauraing in 1933. In 1954 a chapel was consecrated in the sanctuary of Beauraing , and a church was built in 1968.
