Aubigny-les-Pothées is a French commune with 315 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Champagne-Ardenne ). It belongs to the arrondissement Charleville-Mézières , the canton Signy-l'Abbaye (until 2015: Rumigny ) and the municipality association Ardennes Thiérache .
geography
The municipality is located in the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, which was founded in 2011 and is crossed by the Audry River. Aubigny-les-Pothées is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vaux-Villaine in the northeast, Lépron-les-Vallées in the southeast, the canton capital Signy-l'Abbaye in the south, Marlemont in the southwest, Logny-Bogny in the west, Cernion in the northwest and the in the canton of Rocroi , municipality of Blombay in the north
history
Two Merovingian cemeteries from the sixth and seventh centuries were discovered on the territory of the municipality . During the Hundred Years War the village was besieged by the Armagnaks .
Aubigny-les-Pothées was burned to the ground in 1643 at the Battle of Rocroi .
At the beginning of the First World War in 1914, the village church served as a simple hospital.
