Vendresse is a French commune with 494 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Midi-Pyrénées ) in the canton of Nouvion-sur-Meuse (until 2015 Omont ), which is part of the Charleville-Mézières arrondissement heard. The inhabitants are called Vendressois .
location
Vendresse is about 20 kilometers south of Charleville-Mézières . The Canal des Ardennes runs through the municipality . Vendresse is surrounded by the neighboring communities Élan in the north, Sapogne-et-Feuchères in the north and northeast, Omicourt and Chémery-Chéhéry in the east, La Neuville-à-Maire in the east and southeast, Le Mont-Dieu in the southeast, Sauville in the south, Louvergny in the southwest, Omont in the west and Villers-le-Tilleul in the northwest.
history
On June 5, 1917, it was here - presumably more by accident - that a railroad artillery bullet hit the Vendresse ammunition depot. Around 50 people lost their lives in the process.
