geography

history
In Vireux-Wallerand, traces of metal extraction from the 1st century after the turn of the century were found. A fortification was built above the vicus of Vireux-Wallerand a little after the year 260, which was probably damaged or destroyed around 350. At the end of the 4th century the defense system was apparently equipped with a strong crew, mainly Germanic mercenaries. About 700 m away, at the end of the mountain spur, these were probably buried in the event of death, of which 47 graves from the end of the 4th and the first half of the 5th century testify. Among the graves were four cremation graves and two with Germanic women's jewelry, six graves contained weapons. Vireux-Wallerand belonged to the county of Luxembourg at the time when the Luxembourgers were also kings of Bohemia . Hence the tradition of calling its inhabitants Bayamons or Bohemons.
