Bishop of Hexen is a black metal band from Israel .

history

Caspar David Friedrich's work Cross and Cathedral in the Mountains adorns the cover of the debut album

The band was founded in late 1994 in Ramat Hasharon . This was followed in 1996 by the demo Ancient Hyms of Legends & Lore , which appeared in an edition of 450 copies. The debut album Archives of an Enchanted Philosophy was released the following year on the underground label Hammerheart Productions from South Korea. The cover is decorated with the painting Cross and Cathedral in the Mountains by Caspar David Friedrich from 1812.

A few years without musical activities followed, until the end of 2003 the singer Lord Koder, who was previously a member of Grimoire , and guitarist Ariel.E (formerly Decayed Soul and Breorn ) joined the band. In 2005, the bass player Seelenfolter joined and signed a record deal for three albums with the Linz label CCP Records .

style

On the demo recording Ancient Hymns of Legends & Lore , the vocals and a very high- pitched synthesizer dominated , while the drums and the thin and weak guitar sound were lost in the overall sound. According to Markus Eck, however, she has already made clear “the overwhelmingly high potential of these extremely theatrical melodic black metal artists”, her debut Archives of an Enchanted Philosophy was “one of the best atmospheric and most fascinating albums of this direction” and “probably one of the most most impressive evidence of symphonically opulent Black Metal ”. The EP Unveil the Curtain of Sanity was described by CCP Records as atmospheric, melodic Black Metal and, due to its orchestral elements, Eck compared it with the early works of Dimmu Borgir . The band's songs revolve around the Bible , the eternal struggle between good and evil and the unholy, with which the band refers to Satan :

“The majority of people, all over the world, have only read the Bible in translation and not in its original language - Hebrew , as we did. The traces of the 'unholy' are proven in almost every line. The 'unholy' is not the medieval, hoofed and horned animal, it has neither claws nor a human form, as it is e.g. B. has been made believable by the Catholic Church for centuries. But it manifests in a much more familiar place ... in mind and soul! Night after night, breath after breath, we create good and bad thoughts and every day dark decisions can conquer our thoughts - and most of the time they do. Hence we are Satan from time to time. Each of our songs contains a different aspect of the inner turmoil in which we wallow. What is under the veil of mental sanity? "
