Borgå diocese

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The diocese of Borgå (in Swedish Borgå stift and in Finnish Porvoon hiippakunta ) is one of nine dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Finland . The bishopric is the cathedral of Porvoo (Swedish Borgå ). The diocese of Borgå comprises the Swedish-speaking parishes and parishes with a Swedish-speaking majority in Finland as well as the German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Finland.

history

The original diocese based in Porvoo was transformed into the diocese of Tampere in 1923 . This made it possible to meet the wish of the Swedish-speaking Finns for their own diocese.
