Diocese of Mikkeli
The Diocese of Mikkeli ( Finnish: Mikkelin hiippakunta ) is one of nine dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland . The bishopric is the Mikkeli cathedral . The Diocese of Mikkeli covers the south-eastern part of Finland .
history
The Diocese of Mikkeli was originally founded in 1897 as the Diocese of Savonlinna with the Cathedral of Savonlinna as the bishopric. In 1924 the bishopric was moved to Viipuri (today's Vyborg) and the diocese of Savonlinna was converted into the diocese of Viipuri. After Finland Viipuri after the Second World War to the Soviet Union ceded, Mikkeli 1945 was determined as the new bishopric.
