Joutsa is a municipality in central Finland with 4467 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018).

It is located 70 km southeast of Jyväskylä in the middle of the Finnish Lake District . The border between the historical landscapes of Häme and Savo runs through the municipality .

At the beginning of 2008, the neighboring municipality of Leivonmäki was incorporated into Joutsa.
