Petäjävesi [ ˈpɛtæjævɛsi ] is a municipality in central Finland with 3900 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located around 30 km west of Jyväskylä . In addition to the community center, Petäjävesi also includes the villages of Kintaus, Kuivasmäki, Kumpujärvi, Rukoila, Piesala, Metsäkulma and Kukkaro.
The main attraction of the municipality is the wooden church of Petäjävesi , which was built between 1763 and 1765 and is on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage .
politics
As in most rural areas of Finland, in Petäjävesi the Center Party is the strongest party. In the 2008 local elections she received 45.5% of the vote. In the municipal council, the highest decision-making body in local affairs, it has ten out of 21 members. The second largest group is the Social Democrats with four seats, followed by the conservative National Assembly Party with three seats. The Christian Democrats with two seats as well as the Left Alliance and the Green Alliance each with one seat are represented in the municipal council .
