Kannonkoski [ ˈkɑnnoŋˌkoski ] is a municipality with 1,353 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) in central Finland .
The municipality was formed in 1934 from the southern villages of the municipality of Kivijärvi and the western part of Viitasaari . In addition to the parish village of Kannonkoski, the municipality includes the villages of Hilmonkoski, Joenniska, Kannonjärvi, Kannonsaha, Kämäri, Käräjämäki, Mannilankylä, Piispala and Vuoskoski. The municipal area is strongly divided by numerous lakes, islands and peninsulas, the total length of the shore is more than 400 km. The community center is located on an isthmus between the lakes Kivijärvi, Syväjärvi and Pudasjärvi. This is also the station of the village, on the railway line from Haapajärvi to Jyväskylä . Passenger traffic was opened in 1960 and stopped again on this section in 1968.

Attractions
The local church was built in 1938 according to plans by Pauli E. Blomstedt and is one of the earliest and most radical examples of functionalist architecture in Finland.

As in most rural areas of Finland, the Center Party is the strongest party in Kannonkoski . In the 2008 local elections it received over half of the votes and has an absolute majority in the local council, the highest decision-making body on local matters, with 10 out of 17 MPs. The second largest group is made up of the Social Democrats with five seats, followed by the conservative National Assembly Party with two seats.
