Bixby is a voice assistant available on Samsung devices with the press of the Bixby button. With Bixby, you can do various tasks on your mobile phone using voice commands and access information.

The voice assistant was first presented by Samsung on March 20, 2017, among other things, for the English and Korean and later also for the German- speaking area and was then made available on almost all subsequent devices. Cell phones that are compatible with Bixby are the proprietary Galaxy S8 , S9 and S10 .

The voice assistant is similar in functionality to other voice assistants such as Amazon's Alexa , Apple's Siri , the Google Assistant and Microsoft's Cortana .

Bixby's predecessor was S Voice .

Functions

Bixby has three parts known as "Bixby Voice", "Bixby Vision" and "Bixby Home".

"Bixby Voice" is the name given to the method of activating Bixby by calling it up or by long pressing the Bixby button, which is located under the volume rocker. For a while before the phone triggered, the Bixby button was reprogrammable and could be set to run other applications or assistants, such as: B. Google Assistant , opens. However, shortly before the phone was released, this ability was removed with a firmware update, but can be remapped using third-party apps. "Bixby Vision" is an augmented reality camera that can identify objects in real time and potentially offers the user the ability to buy them online, translate text, read QR codes and identify landmarks. [20] "Bixby Home" is a vertically scrolling list of information that Bixby can interact with, such as weather, fitness activity and buttons to control your smart home gadgets.

Initially, Bixby supported three languages: English , Korean, and Chinese .

Samsung reported that Bixby on the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 + would not be operational when the devices first shipped to customers on April 21, 2017. Samsung stated that Bixby's key features including Vision, Home and Reminder would be available with the global introduction of smartphones. Bixby Voice should be available on the Galaxy S8 and S8 + in the US this spring. However, the release of the English version was postponed as Samsung struggled to get Bixby to fully understand the language.

As of April 2018, Bixby will be available in over 195 countries, but only in Korean, English (US only) and Chinese (Mandarin). The Chinese version of Bixby is only available on devices that are officially sold in mainland China. Bixby Korean was introduced on May 1, 2017.

As of December 2018, Samsung introduced Bixby's voice command feature in French.

On February 20, 2019, Samsung announced the addition of additional languages: English (British), German, Italian and Spanish (Spain). On February 22, 2020, Samsung announced the addition of Portuguese (Brazil) for Galaxy S10 & Note10 in beta and later for other models.
