Bjørn (also Björn, Bjorn) Nielsen (born October 4, 1907 , † May 21, 1949 in Herning ) was a Danish chess master.

He won the Danish individual championships in 1941, 1942, 1944 and 1946. In 1947 he was split first, but was then defeated in the play-off against Jens Enevoldsen with 0.5: 3.5. Also in 1949 he shared first place. The necessary playoff against Poul Hage , which was planned to take place in autumn 1949, did not take place due to his untimely death.

For Denmark he also took part in 3 Chess Olympiads :

  • 1933 , on the 4th board in Folkestone (+4 = 7 −2);
  • 1935 on board 2 in Warsaw (+3 = 6 −5);
  • 1936 on the third board at the unofficial Chess Olympiad in Munich (+10 = 3 −2).

With this last result he also won the individual gold medal at this Chess Olympiad.

Nielsen reached his highest historical Elo rating of 2601 in September 1942, placing him in 32nd place in the world rankings.
