Black City was a Danish rock group from Aarhus around the singer Bjørn Poulsen, which was successful from 2009 to 2014.
Band history
Singer and guitarist Bjørn Poulsen from Aarhus was discovered by Universal Music at the end of 2000 through his MySpace appearance and was offered a record deal. Together with Kristian Klærke (guitar), Jakob Bjørn Hansen (drums) and Torleik Mortensen (bass), he founded the band Black City in autumn 2009. With their first single Summertime , they had a radio hit the following year. In the same year they released their debut album. The album, named after the band, was a success and reached number 36 on the Danish charts. They then toured extensively through Northern Europe and supported AC / DC and Ozzy Osbourne .
Before the second album there were some changes. Bassist Mortensen had left the band and after Mixen had temporarily taken over Lindberg, Anders Borre Mathiesen became the new fourth man. Black City also switched to Sony Music , where DAD were also under contract, and teamed up with their producer Nick Foss. In February 2013 the album Fire was released in Denmark. But it did not bring the hoped-for breakthrough and lagged behind the debut album in terms of success. The publication in Germany the following year did not bring any new impetus to the career either.
The band members had already worked on other projects during their years together. In 2014 they announced the breakup of the band and justified it with musical differences. On October 11th of that year they gave their farewell concert in Copenhagen.
