Black Depths Gray Waves was a death industrial project from Tampa .

history

Metal musicians Saint Ov Gravediggers from Vasa Iniquitatis and Clint Listing from A Darkned Sea and As All Die formed Black Depths Gray Waves in the second half of the 2000s. The first EPs Black Depths, Gray Waves 2009 and Tumor Throne 2010 appeared on Absolute Zero Media , one of several labels operated by Listing, and received little international attention. The debut album Nightmare Of the Blackened Heart , however, was released in 2011 in cooperation with the British label Aesthetic Death Records . Most of the album's reviewers abstained from making a clear assessment. The album was sometimes judged as "exciting" and sometimes as "cultivated boredom". The few grading reviews, however, are clearly drifting apart and either highlight the album as particularly positive or evaluate it as extremely negative.

With Never Forever Simply Done , the group's second and final studio album was released in 2014. The album, released through Dead Games Records , another label operated by Listing, was judged by critics to be bad and boring. The dissolution of Black Depths Gray Waves was announced with the press release of the promotional copies of Never Forever Simply Done .

style

The style of the duo is attributed to death industrial. For comparison, mainly genre representatives and other post-industrial artists such as Melek-Tha , MZ. 412 , Skullflower , Profane Grace , Valefor , Khost or Oskryf , In Slaughter Natives and Schloss Tegal . The duo themselves describe the style they play as Black Occult Industrial or Black Occult Industrial Noise .

The style is characterized by a rushing background noise that is perceived as dull and monotonous. This would create a scary or horror atmosphere, which would be created in particular by the singing. This would fade away “ghost through the industrial cold landscape” and remain “completely incomprehensible.” Meanwhile, the soundscape cannot be assigned to any unique instruments and is characterized by sound effects such as distortion , echo and reverb . The soundscape created in this way suggests, according to reviewers, the atmosphere of a machine end time .
