Black Galaxy , also known as Star Galaxy or Gold Galaxy , is the trade name for gabbro , an igneous rock .

Origin and composition

Gabbro is a fine-grain igneous rock that formed in the earth's interior. It consists mainly of dark minerals such as pyroxene , hornblende and olivine , quartz is absent or only occurs in traces. Star Galaxy is a black gabbro interspersed with reflective minerals, which is used as a natural stone by the stonemason , mainly as a tombstone or in house construction. The reflective minerals are bronzite embedded in a dark matrix.

Technical characteristics and use

Since “real” granite does not exist in dark tones, Black Galaxy is offered as granite . In fact, the mechanical properties are similar, so the stone can be used almost like granite. However, the Star Galaxy lacks quartz , the hardest mineral in natural stones, so the abrasion resistance is lower than that of the granites. Furthermore, this gabbro has different properties than granite in terms of its chemical resistance. The bronzite minerals (the glittering "tinsel") react to citric acid , so care should be taken when using them as a kitchen worktop . Star Galaxy is used in particular as a tile .

The mining area is located in India in the state of Andhra Pradesh .
