The power plant Blackwall Point ( English Blackwall Point Power Station ) was a coal power plant in London's City district Royal Borough of Greenwich in the district of Greenwich Peninsula . The power plant was located on the south bank of the Thames in the vicinity of the entertainment complex The O₂, which existed in 2017 .

history

The power plant at the site consisted of a first power plant which went into operation in 1900, the first project work on this started around 1890 and was in operation until 1947. This first power plant complex had an installed capacity of 15  MW . In 1947 the old power plant was completely demolished and replaced by a new coal-fired power plant which went into operation in 1951 with an installed capacity of 90 MW. The new power plant consisted of three machine sets of 30 MW each. In 1951, the power plant was the first coal-fired power plant in London to be operated with pulverized coal - operation with pulverized coal enabled the output to be quickly adjusted to the fluctuating electricity demand. The coal dust was transported from the bunkers to the kilns with fans .
