from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blade , actually Eric Brooks, is the name of a comic hero and comic series of the same name from the US publisher Marvel Comics .

The character of Blade is half vampire and half human and first appeared in 1973 in the comic Tomb of Dracula # 10. In 1975 and 1976 he had his own stories in the Marvel Preview series . 1992 followed a guest appearance in Ghost Rider . From 1994 Blade finally got his own comic series.

figure

Blade's mother was bitten by the vampire Deacon Frost while she was pregnant. In the womb, however, Blade was not completely transformed into a vampire because his dying mother gave birth to him earlier. Blade has the strengths of both races, but none of their weaknesses. However, Blade feels the thirst for blood of a vampire, which he is able to suppress with a healing serum . In addition, he ages more slowly than a human. Since daylight does not harm him, he is also called "Daywalker" (German for example: "Tagganger"; "Tagwandler").

During his campaign against vampires, whom he regards as his mother's murderers, he fights with various weapons. In his original comic incarnation, he used wooden knives as his main weapon, later also metal bladed weapons (hence the name "Blade", in English: "Blade"). He allied himself on his campaign with other professional vampire hunters, including Quincy Harker and Rachel van Helsing, the descendants of Dracula's enemies described in Bram Stoker's novel ; Frank Drake, a human descendant of Dracula; Taj Nital, an Indian who lost his son to a vampire; and the detective Hannibal King, also a victim of Deacon Frost, but who was able to control his thirst for human blood.
