content

Dracula, born in Sighișoara in 1430 , became a vampire in 1459 when he was badly wounded on the battlefield in the Turkish invasion of Transylvania . The leader of the enemy army, Turac, brought Dracula to a gypsy to keep him alive; however, this gypsy was a vampire who made Dracula a being of power for the persecution of her people. Dracula later gained control of all vampires on earth through the appointment of the Atlantean wizard Varnae.

At the end of the 19th century (as described in Bram Stoker's novel ) he was destroyed by humans, his remains kept in his coffin. But soon he was revived and began his activity as a vampire again in the 20th century. He meets Rachel van Helsing , Abraham van Helsing's great-granddaughter, among others . He also competes against the vampire hunter Blade , the X-Men and others. Eventually, Dracula and all other vampires on earth were destroyed by an unholy spell, the Montesi Formula ( Doctor Strange # 62). However, Dracula reappeared on earth in the 21st century to carry out his plans for world domination by the vampires ( Captain Britain and Mi-13 # 9).

publication

The comic series ran from April 1972 to August 1979 and comprises a total of 70 issues. The title was then used for a short-lived comic magazine series, also published by Marvel, but was finally discontinued in August 1980. The team Wolfman and Colan left the Marvel Comics Group a short time later and henceforth worked for the competing publisher DC Comics . In the 1970s, the series was published in Germany under the title "Die Gruft von Graf Dracula" by the Hamburg Williams publishing house, and later by Klaus Recht GmbH. From 1974 to 1976 33 four-color booklets were published. Issue number 5 was indexed by the "Federal Testing Office for Writings Harmful to Young People".

Between 2003 and 2006 Panini Verlag published the complete series in 12 volumes, which was available in both soft and hardcover.

The Dracula figure in the series also served Marvel as an antagonist to superheroes such as Blade and Spider Man , and she still appears in this role in other series today.
