Blaga Nikolowa Dimitrova ( Bulgarian Блага Димитрова ; born January 2, 1922 in Byala Slatina , Wraza Oblast ; † May 2, 2003 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian writer, poet, translator and politician.

Blaga Dimitrova grew up in Veliko Tarnovo and then studied Slavic Studies in Sofia. After graduating in 1945, she did her doctorate in Leningrad and Moscow . In Bulgaria she stood out as a translator from ancient Greek, Polish, Russian, Swedish, German and Vietnamese, wrote literary reviews and essays, and worked as an editor for books for young people. During the Vietnam War, she traveled to Vietnam five times and eventually adopted a Vietnamese girl. She was married to the literary critic Jordan Wassilew .

At the end of the communist era in Bulgaria, she and others founded the Committee for Environmental Protection in Russia and the Club for Democracy in 1987 , from which the opposition alliance Union of Democratic Forces later emerged. From 1992 to 1993 she was the Vice-President of Bulgaria under President Shelju Schelew , but resigned again out of disappointment with politics.
