Blaise Francis El Mourabit

Blaise Francis El Mourabit (born December 9, 1983 in Wuppertal ) is a German- Congolese human rights lawyer who represents victims and victims of racism cases in Germany free of charge. This made him a role model for many Persons of Color in Germany.

Life

Blaise Francis El Mourabit has dual citizenship (Germany - Democratic Republic of the Congo). He grew up in Germany, England, South Africa and the United States. At the age of 19 he was stopped by the police while driving his own car in Wuppertal and threatened with firearms because, according to El Mourabit, the police suspected that the car was stolen due to his skin color. This event was one of the reasons why he decided to study law to become a lawyer. Because he wanted to be able to defend himself legally.

Blaise Francis El Mourabit studied at the University of Cologne , the University of Cambridge and the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster , among others .

Today he is active as a human rights lawyer in the Black Lives Matter movement in Germany, among other things as a speaker. He sits down u. a. to ensure that the Berlin State Anti-Discrimination Act (LADG) is introduced nationwide and becomes valid. He also advocates that police officers' body cams must be switched on in a mandatory manner if police officers want to interfere with fundamental rights. As part of his work as a human rights attorney, he received over 700 letters and over 200 legal inquiries about potential cases of racism. He is the defender of a 23-year-old woman with dark skin who lost consciousness in a controversial arrest by the police on May 30, 2020 in Kaiserslautern while a police officer was kneeling on her upper body. The investigation is still ongoing.
