Location and description
The castle was built on a hill in the Gürbetal . The shield wall is still clearly visible today and some remains of the wall have been preserved. The inner moat is also well preserved, whereas the outer moat is only partially visible.
On the opposite chain of hills, the Bühlhölzli, an earthwork from the early Middle Ages can also still be seen. It is not known whether and how the two structures were connected.
history
There is no reliable information about the Blankenburg. It is known that around 1260 the Burgistein dominion was founded by Jordan von Thun, whose descendants called themselves von Burgistein .
The castle was abandoned during the 14th century.
