The pale sack spider ( Clubiona pallidula ) is a species of spider belonging to the sack spider family . The species is widespread and common in Central Europe.

features

The pale bag spider is one of the large species of the genus. Males have a body length of 6 to 9 mm, females reach 7 to 13 mm. The front body ( prosoma ) is yellowish-brown and becomes dark black-brown towards the front, the chelicerae are also blackish-brown. The back of the body ( opisthosoma ) is hairy reddish brown to black and whitish. The legs are solid yellowish brown.

In Central Europe there are a number of very similar species of the genus; the reliable determination of the species is therefore only possible through a macroscopic examination of the genital organs (genital morphological).

distribution and habitat

The pale sack spider colonizes large parts of the Palearctic from Ireland and Spain to the east to the southeasternmost Siberia and Sakhalin . In the north-south direction, the distribution extends from Scandinavia to Greece and in the east from Novaya Zemlya south to the north of Afghanistan . The species is absent in Europe only in Iceland and on some islands in the Mediterranean . The distribution area includes the Arctic to Mediterranean zone. In Central Europe, the species mainly lives in moderately dry to dry deciduous and coniferous forests.

Way of life

The species is tree-dwelling and mainly lives on trunks and in the tree tops. Sexually mature animals can be found from April to September. The young spiders usually overwinter under tree bark.

Danger

The pale bag spider is widespread and common in suitable habitats. In Germany it is classified as "safe" in the Red List .
