The blue tailed lizard ( Holaspis guentheri ) is a small lizard that occurs from West ( Sierra Leone ) to East Africa ( Tanzania ) and south to Angola .

Appearance

The pointy-headed lizard becomes a total of twelve centimeters long. Their back is longitudinally banded in black and cream color, the tail is blue on the upper side and has black transverse bands.

Way of life

The blue tailed lizard lives in forests and bushland, especially on tree trunks, but also lives on the ground. She is diurnal, agile and moves very quickly. Due to the flattening of the body, the lizards are able to glide a short distance through the air. Blue tailed lizards feed on small arthropods , such as spiders or flies. They lay two eggs under pieces of bark or in the leaves.
