The Blue oedemeridae ( Ischnomera cyanea ) is a representative of the family of oedemeridae (Oedemeridae). The related species Ischnomera caerulea is usually included under the term “blue longhorn beetle” . This species is very difficult to separate from Ischnocera cyanea .
features
The beetles are about 10 millimeters long. The head, pronotum and elytra are bluish to greenish shimmering. Four longitudinal ribs run over the wing covers. The femora are slightly thickened. The claws of the tarsi have a small basal tooth.
distribution
The beetle species occurs in large parts of Europe. In the north, the occurrence extends to the south of Great Britain and central Sweden .
Way of life
Deciduous forests and forest edges are preferred habitats. The adults can be seen in April and May. The beetles feed on pollen, especially whitebeams ( Sorbus ), hawthorns ( Crataegus ) and various umbelliferae such as hogweed . The larvae are found in rotten hardwood.
