The blue-spotted or dark purple boletus ( Imperator rhodopurpureus , syn. Boletus rhodopurpureus , B. purpureus ) is a rare type of mushroom from the family of the boletaceae . It is not an edible mushroom.
features
The fruiting body is cut open and turns dark blue in the air and smells like a carrion. The taste of the meat is mild, the smell sour. The hat measures 6–15 cm in diameter. It is cushion-shaped with a matt, slightly velvety-tomentose, dry surface and when young it is gray or grayish-brown in color and later red or dark purple in color. The pristine tubular sponge is yellow when young and soon turns orange to conspicuously blood red on the outer surface from the stem. The stem is quite short and usually very thick and bulbous to bulbous and covered by a fine net.
Species delimitation
It is similar to the blood-red witch's tube ( Rubroboletus dupainii ), which occurs in the warmest regions of Central and Southern Europe, and generally to the various witch's tube from the genera Neoboletus and Suillellus . The similar ox boletus ( Imperator torosus ) differs in its pores that remain yellow for a long time.
ecology
It grows in deciduous forests on calcareous soil and fructifies relatively early in the year (May to August).
