Blauherd station

Blauherd is an alp in the canton of Valais , about 4 km east of Zermatt at an altitude of 2580 m.

Blauherd lies above the tree line on a sun terrace, which also includes Alp Sunnegga , which is further down . To the east of Blauherd, the terrain to the Unterrothorn rises considerably and the vegetation decreases significantly. Blauherd is characterized by its typical alpine meadows with numerous protected plants. A marmot nature trail has been set up nearby, which aims to bring tourists closer to the way of life of the alpine animals. There is a large population of these animals on Blauherd and in the immediate vicinity.

In summer Blauherd is connected to the hiking network around Zermatt and in winter to countless slopes. Blauherd can be reached from Zermatt via an underground funicular (to Sunnegga) and a gondola lift . A panoramic cable car continues from Blauherd to the Unterrothorn. Blauherd is also the mountain station of a 6-seater chairlift from Gant (connection with the Hohtälli ) and another chairlift from Pattrullarve . With these four mountain railways, Blauherd is one of the most important hubs in the Zermatt ski area .

From Blauherd you can see the peaks of Monte Rosa (only the peaks, the massif is covered by the Gornergrat ), the Matterhorn , the Dent Blanche and the Valais . The Mischabel group cannot be seen from the mountain station as it is largely covered by the Rothorn.
