Bledius tricornis is a beetle from the family of the short-winged (Staphylinidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 5.5 to 6.5 millimeters. The front edge of the head shield is not bent up, the front angle of the pronotum is not pointed, it is dense and slightly wrinkled except in the middle. The wings are brownish-red in color and together are as wide as they are long. They often have a dark scutellar spot. The legs are mostly brightly colored. The horn of the pronotum is furrowed in the male.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed in the south of the Palearctic . It inhabits southern and central Europe, southern northern Europe, Asia Minor , the Caucasus , Turkestan , east to China . In southern and central Europe, the animals are found widespread both on the coast and inland. They colonize salt soils on coasts and inland as well as loamy and sandy soils.
