Stay here and keep watch with me (often shorter Lodge here) is for the Taizé Community written hymn .

The song is often sung in the Church of Reconciliation in Taizé

The text has a biblical origin and comes from Mt 26.36–38 EU or the parallel passage  Mk 14.32–42  EU :

“Then fear and sadness seized him, and he said to them: My soul is grieved to death. Stay here and watch with me! [..] And he went back to the disciples and found them sleeping. Then he said to Peter: Could you not keep watch with me for an hour? Watch and pray so that you are not tempted. "

Shape and spread

The song is a four-part short chant characteristic of the Taizé community . The song is sung over and over again in a meditative manner. It can be supported by solo chants in French, English, German, Italian and Spanish. For the instrumental accompaniment, there is music sets for keyboard , guitar , oboe , flute oboe, clarinet , English horn , horn - bassoon , trumpet , cello and bassoon. Stay here and watch with me can be singed in 14 languages: English (Stay with me), Portuguese (Permanece junto de Mim), Spanish (Velaré contigo Señor), Polish (Zostan tu), Slovenian (Bodi tu), Czech (Zůstaňte a bděte), Lithuanian (Likite), Croatian (Ostani tu i uza), Albanian (Rriniktu e prisni me mu), Russian, Ukrainian, Swahili (Kaa hapa pamoja) and Italian (Resa qui).

History and expansion

Jacques Berthier is the composer of the song . The song was released in 1982, making it one of the older Taizé songs that are still actively sung today. It has been in the Taizé hymn book since its release, in the current version under song number 3.

In the Evangelical Hymn book, the chant is part of the common prayer according to Taizé (No. 789.2). In the Catholic praise of God it is in the section The Celebration of Holy Week (No. 286). It is also published in other works, such as B. in “The fountain in blue” ( ISBN 3-922813-25-9 ) and “You are Mr. 1” ( ISBN 3-925352-23-6 ).
