The pale fly beetle ( Rhagonycha lignosa ) is a beetle from the soft beetle family (Cantharidae).
features
The slender beetles are 5–7.5 mm long. The head, pronotum and shield, as well as the outer antennae, are colored black. The legs, mandibles , elytra and the 3–4 basal antennae are yellow-brown in color. The tips of the wing covers can be colored black. The elytra are covered with short hairs. The convex eyes are protruding.
distribution
The species is common and widespread in Central Europe. In the north, the occurrence extends to southern Scandinavia and the British Isles . In the south, the distribution area extends over the Mediterranean, in the east over western Russia and extends to the Caspian Sea .
Way of life
The beetles can be seen from late April to late June. Forests form their typical habitat. Both imagines and the larvae are predators of small insects, especially the Fichtenröhrenlaus ( Elatobium abietinum ).
