Lead Mosque (Berat)
The Lead Mosque ( Albanian Xhamia e plumbite ), or Mosque of Ahmed Bey Usgurli (Xhamia e Izgurliut) , is an important historical building in central Albania Berat . It was built in 1553 and 1554 and is a cultural monument in the country.
The single- dome mosque got its name from its lead dome. The porch (portico) covered by three other small domes was added later.
In the socialist era it last served as an architecture museum. Directly opposite the mosque, which is located in the traditional Muslim quarter of the city, the Orthodox "Cathedral of St. Demetrius " has recently been built.
The lead mosque was renovated in 2014 by the Turkish Presidium for Cooperation and Coordination (TİKA) .
