Guntram Koch

Guntram Koch (born January 23, 1941 in Naumburg (Saale) ) is a German classical and Christian archaeologist .

After graduating from the Ratsgymnasium in Hanover , Koch studied Classical Archeology, Christian Archeology, Byzantine Art History and Classical Philology in Göttingen and Athens . In 1970 he received his doctorate in classical archeology in Göttingen. In 1970/71 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . Since 1971 he has been an assistant at the Christian-Archaeological Department of the Theological Faculty of the University of Göttingen, where he qualified as a professor in 1977 in Christian archeology and Byzantine art history. From 1981 until his retirement in 2006 he was Professor of Christian Archeology and Byzantine Art History at the Theological Faculty of the University of Marburg .

Koch's main area of ​​research is the sarcophagi of the Roman Empire , and since 1989 he has been co-editor of the corpus of ancient sarcophagus reliefs . Then there are the early Christian sarcophagi
