Blok Senate 2001
The Blok Senate 2001 (German: Senate Block 2001 ) was an electoral alliance of three parties and an electoral alliance of the Post Solidarność camp for the 2001 parliamentary elections in Poland . Due to the growing popularity of the SLD - UP coalition among the population, it was founded to prevent the Social Democratic electoral alliance from gaining a majority in the Senate by putting together candidates in each of the 100 Senate constituencies, while the member parties ran individually in the elections to the Sejm . The member parties were:
- Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność Prawicy (AWSP: Electoral Action Solidarity of the Right ), an electoral alliance made up of several parties in the Post-Solidarność camp led by Jerzy Buzek
- Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS, English: Law and Justice ), a national conservative party led by Lech Kaczyński
- Platforma Obywatelska (PO, Eng .: Civic Platform ), a liberal-conservative party led by Maciej Płażyński
- Unia Wolności (UW, German: Freedom Union ), a liberal party led by Władysław Frasyniuk
The 2001 Senate bloc failed, however, in the parliamentary elections and could only move in with 15 members (out of 100 possible seats in the Senate), who formed a common parliamentary group.
