The Blue Beat are a ska band from Jülich . Alongside The Braces , Skaos and The Busters, they are considered to be one of the first German ska bands.
Band history
After the band was founded in Jülich in 1982 , The Blue Beat first appeared as a contemporary punk band at local and regional concerts.
However, under the musical influence of 2nd wave bands such as Madness , The Specials and The Selecter , the musical style of the band quickly changed to ska , so that the band gave itself its current name in 1983 based on the ska record label of the same name.
With the emergence of the third wave of Ska in the mid-eighties and the reawakening popularity of Ska in Europe, Blue Beat also gained national recognition within the scene with publications on various Ska samplers. In 1987 they played at the first German ska festival together with the bands Skaos (Munich) and The Braces in the legendary live club Okie Dokie in Neuss / Düsseldorf, which was demolished a short time later. During this time the support appearances for well-known Ska greats such as Laurel Aitken , Desmond Dekker and The Selecter also fall .
After some changes in the line-up, The Blue Beat have been increasingly active at concerts and festivals again since 2005, and according to their own statements, further studio albums are planned.
