meaning

Salvio Incorvaia writes in The Classic Punk - An Oral History that the Okie Dokie, together with other factors, people and locals, played a decisive role in the development of the early punk scene in the Düsseldorf area in the late 1970s and early 1980s . In the autumn of 1979 the Okie Dokie took over the function of "a concert venue that gives impulses to the scene". With its diverse range of concerts and festivals, the Okie Dokie had a wide acceptance among bands and visitors. It became the venue of the concert initiative Pop-Club of the punk activist Jürgen Krause, who organized their concerts there every 14 days and also brought bands from other cities to Neuss. The Okie Dokie, together with the Neuss record store and label Schallmauer, became a forum for national networking of the punk scene. Until its closure in 1987, the Okie Dokie remained a popular and recognized music club despite the increasing number of concerts in the fields of punk, post-punk and new wave .
