The Blue Ridge Mountain Entertainers were an old-time American group from North Carolina that held a series of sessions in 1931.

history

Although only five singles were released under the name of the Blue Ridge Mountain Entertainers, they - or individual members - are behind a series of recordings from the late 1920s to 1931. The individual musicians played together in loose constellations before the recordings. For example, Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster were members of the Carolina Tar Heels , Ashley and Clarence Greene were members of Byrd Moore's Hot Shots and Ashley also played some duets with Foster.

The first recordings were made on November 30, 1931 for the American Record Corporation (ARC) in New York City and published under various names on a variety of labels. It was not until the second day, December 1st, that productions followed under the band name, which the members also used for performances in their homeland around North Carolina , South Carolina and Virginia . Last recordings of all musicians followed on December 2nd, including Bring Me a Leaf from the Sea as Blue Ridge Mountain Entertainers. All five pieces that were recorded in these days were released by Banner Records and three other labels.

There were no further recordings of the group, which then broke up.
