List of dances

Blues as a dance belongs to jazz dance and lindy hop and shares with them the African origin. But in blues dance there is less emphasis on starting the movements on the beat.

Walking is the basic step . The dancers can walk in place or in any direction.

Blues as a ballroom or show dance was never very widespread in the United States . Instead it was danced in smoky music bars and at blues house parties and had a more private character. Therefore, the dance remained more strictly bound to the forms of movement of the African dance, not only in the movement of the hips, but also with the fact that it takes place within a clearly limited space.

In addition, blues dance and blues music are closely related. Many aspects of dance are directly related to the music being danced to, e.g. B. Call and answer , emotional intensity, tension and resolution. There are many types of blues music (rural, urban, fast, slow, electrifying, modern) and just as many types of blues dance, all of them very different in nuances and emotions.

Anyone who studies the modern slow blues dance only by observation, easily overlooks the subtleties of the dance that go beyond the erotic side, because the sensual aspects can cover the basic structure. The best way to dance the blues is through subtle physical communication while dancing tightly with your partner, and it is impossible to learn properly and well just by watching.

Blues dance allows for distinct individuality in the way the music is expressed in dance, with the emphasis on the fact that the music determines the dance, not the dancer who is only the interpreter of the music. Blues dance shows the whole richness of the human emotional world - from sadness to joy - in a passionate way, not just sensuality. If you do not react instinctively to the music, the partner and the surroundings, you will not reach the true beauty of this dance.

Learning to dance the blues helps the dancer to better understand dance concepts such as simplicity , clarity, creativity , expressiveness, intensity , musical and emotional interpretation, which are part of all demanding ballroom dances .
