Blues Traveler is an American blues-rock band from Princeton ( New Jersey ).

Career

The band was founded in 1988 by John Popper . The first LP Blues Traveler was released in 1990 and appeared on the US LP charts a year later. In 1991, her second long-playing record, Travelers and Thieves , was released, which received great attention from critics. The following year the band produced their third album, which was overshadowed by a serious accident involving John Popper. He had such a serious accident with his motorcycle that he had to spend over a year in a wheelchair, which did not prevent him from performing with the group.

The Blues Traveler had the greatest success with their fourth album four , which was released in 1994. In December of that year the record placed 8th on the American LP charts and sold over 5 million copies. At the same time, the single Run Around , which was a decoupling of the LP, was released and landed in the top ten of the singles hit parade in the USA. The second release from the LP ( Hook ) only reached number 23 in the US singles charts at the end of 1995. In 1996 the band recorded the live double CD Live from the Fall , which reflected their quality as an excellent live band. 1999 marked a tragic turning point for the band: bassist Bobby Sheehan died as a result of drug abuse, Ben Wilson (keyboards) and Tad Kinchla (bass) joined the band. In the following years further CDs appeared, which musically maintained the level of the publications in the nineties, but could no longer build on the success of four .

Blues travelers are practically unknown in Germany. Most of their albums have not been released here and are only available as imports. They are better known here through contributions to the soundtracks of American films; in some they also had guest appearances, for example in Blues Brothers 2000 or Kingpin .
