In 1997 he was a visiting student for one year at Western Australia's College of Fine Arts in Perth, Australia. From 2004 to 2008 he lived and worked in Munich, in November 2008 Larsson moved to Hamburg, where he received the Philipp Otto Runge grant for one year .

Artistic work

drawings

For Bo Christian Larsson, the creative process begins with drawing. The physical act of drawing plays a big role in this.

Bo Christian Larsson: “ I believe that strong feelings as a result of aesthetic experience are a very important part of my creative process. The emphasis on feelings such as fear and terror - these are feelings that one can experience when one is confronted with the direct meaning of my work . "

Although the large-format drawings are independent works, Bo Christian Larsson describes them primarily as “ blueprints for the installations and performances .” So his installations are drawings implemented in 3D, the performances have for him the status of the act of drawing, just with Audience.

Performances and installations

Almost all of Bo Christian Larsson's installations arise from a performance. A constant companion in the performances is a black wig that covers his face, through which he can no longer see anything and thus creates an artificial darkness that directs the gaze inward to the essentials.

Bo Christian Larsson: “ I think it's the only costume that you can even wear that does as little and as much as possible with your body at the same time. No great effort. You put on a wig and you are a different person. That has always fascinated me. I have the wig in front of my eyes. I turn them around so that I can no longer see anything. It is an important point in my performances that I blind myself and that I have to look inward. I become a different person and disappear into this role . ”(Interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk on June 24, 2008)

The same protagonists often appear in Larsson's performances, such as B .:

  • Sonuvabitch: the constant hunter, on the search for the inner verve.
  • Redeemer: the voice of minorities and a judge without a court.
  • The Worldhater: A disgusted miserable complainer.
  • Pentaman: the indistinguishable hermit.
  • Mr. Empire: the silent warrior and guardian of the human ideal.
  • The Poet: a perceptive soul and a proud bodyguard of the intellect.
  • The Shadow: also known as the Worried Man.

Objects

The objects are mostly created in the course of performances and installations.
