Bo Waterside is a border town in the West African Republic of Liberia . It is located in the Tewor District of Grand Cape Mount County . The place is about 30 kilometers (as the crow flies) north of the county capital Robertsport on the left bank and lower reaches of the Mano River , on the border with Sierra Leone .

The place was first known in the 1970s through the opening of a border crossing and a modern bridge. The construction of these structures was decided in 1974 when the Mano River Union was founded. The bridge made border traffic and tourism much easier. During the civil war , the border crossing was unilaterally closed in 1990 at the instigation of the Sierra Leone government. The move was justified on the grounds that Liberia's President Charles Taylor would use this route to supply the RUF rebels operating against the Sierra Leone government with supplies. As a result, the transit travelers had to choose a long detour to the north or the sea route in order to legally cross the border. The border crossing between Jendema in Sierra Leone and Bo Waterside was reopened in June 2007, after 17 years of blockade, as a sign of reconciliation between the two states.

Before that, a new border checkpoint was set up as part of the UNMIL- funded "Quick Impact Project" and the Liberian border police and customs officers were trained.

There is a smaller processing plant with a cold store for fishery products on site. Fishing on the Mano River is done by a fishing cooperative.
