The Mano River Union (MRU), also French Union du Fleuve Mano , is an intergovernmental organization in West Africa , to which the countries of Ivory Coast , Guinea , Sierra Leone and Liberia belong. Its name is derived from the Mano , the border river between the two founding states Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The MRU was originally founded in 1973 in Sierra Leone, and Guinea joined in 1980. However , it ceased operations during the civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone . On May 20, 2004, the MRU was founded in Guinea and in 2008 the Ivory Coast also joined the organization.

The MRU's headquarters are in Freetown , Sierra Leone. There are also offices in Nzérékoré (Guinea), Kenema (Sierra Leone), Nimba (Liberia) and Danané (Ivory Coast).

The task of the MRU is the economic strengthening of the region, trade, the harmonization of telecommunications and post, the expansion of industry and agriculture as well as political cooperation between the member states.

Medina Wesseh from Liberia has been Secretary General since 2017 .
